Rahat Bakers and Sweets: Message in a Mithai Box

Entrants: Ogilvy Pakistan
Partners: Rahat Since 1950 Bakers and Sweets, Center for Human Rights, Dil Ka Rishta, Women of the World Festival

The Challenge

In Pakistan's traditional wedding culture, mithai holds deep symbolic significance. Yet 97% of Pakistani women lack agency over their Nikkahnama, the marriage contract that determines their rights and freedoms. The campaign needed to reach women at a culturally significant moment, provide genuinely useful legal information, and do so while navigating an extraordinarily sensitive cultural and political landscape.

The Strategy

The team embedded QR codes and legal information within Rahat's wedding sweet boxes, transforming a beloved cultural touchpoint into a vehicle for empowerment. The influencer strategy blended religious leaders, who provided Islamic legitimacy, with contemporary creators, ensuring the message was both credible and widely shared across communities.

The Work

Influencers volunteered their platforms, creating a narrative that respected cultural norms while advocating for change. Strategic partnerships with the Center for Human Rights and Dil Ka Rishta extended the campaign's reach into communities that needed it most, while the legal foundation of the work ensured it could withstand scrutiny in a highly sensitive environment.

Results

The campaign generated 103 million impressions, provided legal support to over 50 women including a child bride, and contributed to a historic Supreme Court verdict on women's Nikkahnama rights.

The Judges' Verdict

"The benchmark for what a purpose-driven campaign should look like – culturally sensitive, politically courageous, tactically brilliant, and emotionally resonant."
