Finding KSI with O2 Satellite

The Challenge
Virgin Media O2 launched O2 Satellite: a debut direct-to-device service delivering mobile coverage across the 11 per cent of the UK landmass with zero phone signal, and needed to build mass consumer awareness around complex satellite technology without relying on technical jargon.
The Strategy
The campaign bypassed technical buzzwords in favour of creator-led entertainment. The team partnered with The Sidemen, the UK's most-watched creator collective, integrating the product directly into their popular "Hide & Seek" format to demonstrate the real-world utility of satellite connectivity.
Execution and Innovation
Creator KSI went "missing" in a remote signal "not-spot," leaving the remaining Sidemen to locate him using only O2 Satellite-connected phones. The service functioned as the essential engine of the game mechanic, enabling creators to load maps, send voice notes, and message across WhatsApp to navigate and complete the challenge.
Results
By making the technology integral to the gameplay, the resulting 90-minute YouTube feature achieved over 5.7 million views, converting high-level satellite technology into engaging, easily understood consumer awareness.
Judges' Verdict
"Results are impressive, especially the viewing time and audience retention."
